De moeite waard of niet
Kronen, facings, inlays, wortelkanaalbehandelingen en implantaten bij particuliere praktijken in Boedapest die een prijslijst in forint publiceren, met hun eigen straatadres. Dit is het geval van de korte vlucht, en meteen het geval waarin je echt moet rekenen: een zirkonia kroon kost hier ruwweg de helft van de Nederlandse prijs in plaats van een tiende, en een implantaatpakket ongeveer de helft. Tegenover Da Nang is Boedapest bij vrijwel elk item de duurdere stad.
Daarmee is het niet klaar, want de reis is de andere helft van de som. Boedapest ligt op tweeënhalf uur van Amsterdam voor de prijs van een treinkaartje, een kroon past in twee bezoeken binnen één week, en gaat er iets mis, dan zit je op een korte vlucht in plaats van een lange. Voor één of twee kronen weegt het verschil in reiskosten meestal zwaarder dan het verschil in behandelkosten; bij een volledige kaak niet meer. De rekenhulp is de plek om dat te beslissen, want het antwoord hangt af van hoeveel werk je nodig hebt, niet van welke stad per item het goedkoopst is.
De prijzen zijn wat de praktijken in forint publiceren, omgerekend tegen de vastgelegde koers. Hongaarse klinieken rekenen per eenheid en zetten voorbereidend werk apart op de lijst: een kroonprijs is de kroon, botopbouw, trekken en noodvoorzieningen zijn eigen regels. Verschillende klinieken adverteren daarnaast met tijdelijke kortingen, die hier niet zijn vastgelegd.
